MLA format guide: http://www.csus.edu/owl/index/mla/mla_format.htm
Citing sources:To cite sources you can either follow the infomation below or you can have it generated for you in Noodlebib. When using Noodlebib be aware that you will need a word document open while you are creating the citation because you will need to copy and past the works into a word document. Remember to go back and alphabetize the list. We do everything in MLA format in English class so be sure to click that button. http://www.noodletools.com/login.php
When researching if you use NC WiseOwl you can use the citation maker, or other sources that will provide you with a works cited page. http://www.ncwiseowl.org/zones/middle/index.htm
Be careful: When doing a Works Cited the most common error is to do the wrong punctuation between information. Carefully look below and see where there are commas, periods, colons, and italics. Book Citation: (1 author) Lastname, Firstname. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. Medium of Publication.
Book with One Author example:Gleick, James. Chaos: Making a New Science. New York: Penguin, 1987. Print. More ways to cite books see:http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/06/ or ask Ms. Miller for help.
Online Citation: Editor, author, or compiler name (if available). Name of Site. Version number. Name of institution/organization affiliated with the site (sponsor or publisher), date of resource creation (if available). Medium of publication. Date of access.<URL>.
Example: The Purdue OWL Family of Sites. The Writing Lab and OWL at Purdue and Purdue U, 2008. Web. 23 Apr. 2008.<http://owl.english.purdue.edu>.
or
Aristotle. Poetics. Trans. S. H. Butcher. The Internet Classics Archive. Web Atomic and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 13 Sept. 2007. Web. 4 Nov. 2008. ‹http://classics.mit.edu/›.
Hint 1: When doing online citations make sure that you do not put the whole URL(webaddress), but just the guts, so If I were to cite this wiki I would put <http://jmiller.wiki.spingboro.org>. I would not addthe additional information that lets the broser know that I am in the Miller's Biography Prjoect Page.
Hint 2: Make sure to remove the hyperlink otherwise the information will be underlined, making it not in MLA format. More ways to cite online information see: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/08/ majority of your inforamtion though should be covered in the citation above. There are other types of sources you may gather, for example a documentary (film) or a magazine. If you end up using one of these sources come see Ms. Miller for help.
